Digital Cinema cameras are the new tool of choice.
Miami Vice, Collateral and Zodiac were all shot using

however, they only capture at HD 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels)

The camera is modular so can be setup as a Cinema camera or scaled down for EFP style projects.
